General & Acute Care Medicine Leader Forum

​This session is open to IMSANZ members and non-IMSANZ colleagues working in leadership roles in general and acute care medicine, medical assessment unit, hospital in home etc. 

This is an in-person only event.

We look forward to welcoming colleagues to the 2025 IMSANZ General and Acute Care Medicine Leaders Forum.  We encourage you to register irrespective of whether you hold a titled leadership role, are an emerging leader or like most General Physicians, are a leader within your clinical practice.

Cost: Registration for this session is included in the IMSANZ Conference 2025 registration fee. A fee of $100 will be payable for non-registrants to attend this session.

RACP Supervisor Workshops


​The Supervisor Professional Development Program (SPDP) is a high-quality training program for final year Advanced Trainees and Fellows who supervise trainees in RACP-accredited positions. SPDP 1, 2 and 3 can be completed in any order. You'll be an RACP-approved supervisor (previously 'accredited supervisor') when you've completed all 3 workshops. 

The RACP will offer two Supervisor training workshops in conjunction with the the IMSANZ Conference, Hobart 2026 and will be hosted in-person only. 

SPDP 1 | Educational Leadership and Management
Educational and leadership management incorporates the overarching themes of developing trainee expertise and using coaching techniques to improve feedback practice.

This workshop focuses on delivering feedback using 2 frameworks, the GROW model and the 4 areas of feedback. By using these models, supervisors can facilitate change and growth in trainees towards expert performance.

Objectives
  • Demonstrate strong educational leadership.
  • Plan and manage for effective supervision.
  • Advocate for enhanced support for trainees.
  • Self-reflect on supervisory performance.

SPDP 2 | Teaching and Learning in Healthcare Settings 
This workshop introduces practical teaching strategies to help supervisors manage challenges in complex healthcare settings. Learn how to plan for learning, use differentiated instruction for multi-level groups and apply questioning techniques effectively.

It explores cultural factors that influence learning, including the hidden curriculum, in-group and out-group dynamics, and the importance of role modelling.

Objectives
  • Understand the key elements of establishing an effective learning environment
  • Identifying challenges supervisors encounter in healthcare settings 
  • Explore strategies to maximise teaching opportunities  
  • Reflect on personal attitudes, beliefs and behaviours, alongside workplace culture, and evaluate their impact on supervisory practice and the quality of educational experiences
