Leading with Dignity

Leading with Dignity: Conflict, Change and Psychological Safety in General Medicine

Duration: 3 hours
Cost: $200 per person
Limited to 40 participants

Conflict and change are constants in general medicine. But do you know your default conflict-handling style? Can you flex your leadership based on the situation? Do you know how to hold space for people through discomfort whilst maintaining their dignity and yours?

In this workshop, you'll integrate evidence-based frameworks to become a more effective leader. You'll discover your own personal conflict style using the validated Thomas-Kilmann Instrument. You'll learn when to flex your leadership approach (situational leadership), how to maintain dignity even in difficult moments, and how to lead people through change and resistance (adaptive change theory). You'll explore how to hold space, balancing challenge with support, and how to repair trust when things go wrong.  Develop sophisticated skills for managing conflict across the medical hierarchy and create a positive team culture.

What you'll learn:

  • Your personal conflict-handling style (TKI assessment + interpretation)
  • When each style is appropriate in medical leadership
  • How to flex your leadership approach based on readiness and situation
  • How to lead people through discomfort into learning
  • How to hold space: balancing challenge and support
  • How to repair trust and have difficult conversations with accountability

Who should attend:
General medicine physicians and advanced trainees who want to build sophisticated leadership skills in managing conflict, leading through change, and creating psychological safety.

What you'll take home:

  • CPD certificate for Category 2 CPD points
  • Individual TKI assessment booklet (personalised interpretation)
  • Frameworks for holding space, heat mapping, and repairing trust
