Physician Wellbeing – Whose Responsibility Is It?
Physician wellbeing is paramount to providing safe, cost effective and sustainable acute and ambulatory medical services. The responsibility for maintaining physician wellbeing has traditionally been seen as belonging to the individual physician rather than being held by the organisation. The increasing recognition of high rates of clinician burnout and the consequences for health outcomes for physicians and patients requires a different approach. The time has come to look at innovative organisational approaches to staff wellbeing and this talk will review the evidence for this approach, making some suggestions for a way forward.
